Thanks Artis! :-)
It took us a long time to make this happen. Too long for my taste. But it has happened. And for the first time in my life, I do not feel "trapped". I am my own master. My wife and I can guide our family wherever curiosity might take us. And we are determined to fund our lifestyle in ways that do not impinge on it.
If you want to start crafting your lifestyle to be more free, you not only have to consciously choose to do that, but you must also take inventory of your current lifestyle to understand what you are doing now that is preventing you from living the life that you truly want.
Just remember that each decision that you make everyday can have a certain degree of stickiness to it. By stickiness, I mean that each decision in your life can either contribute to flexibility in your lifestyle, or can hinder that flexibility. And oftentimes these decisions seem insignificant when you make them, and you may not realize the impact that they can have on your degree of freedom.
Watch out for making commitments that tie up your time or that tie you to a particular place, if you actually want to travel or to spend more of your time with loved ones. As my dad has always been fond of saying, "be jealous of your time." There are only so many hours in our life, and we are so conditioned to selling these or to spending them doing things that we really don't care for. Perhaps it is better to spend a few hours doing not much of anything with your loved ones than to earn a few extra bucks? Some of my best family memories are of us just hanging out. Bonding, really.
It is clear to me that you truly want this. May I suggest that you get started today on your way to the life that you really want to live?
I wish you the absolute best! Let me know how things go. :-)
Yours truly,
Hugh

Hi Nancy!
Thank you so much for the kind words! :-)
I hope that you know that you guys are my heros! I want to tell more people about you, because you are the kind of role models that modern families need. You just did it. You prove that it can be done. Whatever it might be to any family.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! :-)
All the best,
Hugh

i'm crying reading this - you have touched me already. i'm so happy for you and your family and i don't even know you. i homeschooled my daughter, and she decided she wanted to try school this year (she is in 2nd grade). it is borderline torturous for me - it just does not feel right, on so many levels. it's bad enough that the husband has to go off to the job all day, but the kids should be together, with their mama, and other people, FREE. it's so important. especially in this time. congratulations for finding a way to make that work. inspiring. i'll enjoy keeping up with you.

YIPPEE!! I am happy to hear you made the decision - it's the best one we ever made! My husband and I took off with our two boys to ride our bikes through the Americas from Alaska to Argentina 18 months ago. It's been a wonderful experience and one I would recommend for all families!

Enjoy being free!
